This semester, i chose quite new elective called "Creative Thinking in Design"
The elective was broken down into three projects:
1. Architectural Tile
2. Corner Block
3. Architectural Screen
Architectural Tile
The first project involved designing a clay tile inspired by Art Nouveau. We modelled our nouveau-inspired designs, but digging in to a flat raku clay tile. They clay tile was then dried, and a negative mould is created by casting the tile with plaster and ultrasil. Casting plaster is then used to replicate the original tile.
This tile was cast in plaster, then painted in copper. A rusting patina was then added to the copper metal coating. |
This tile was cast in plaster, and again painted in copper. I first applied a vista green patina using a sponge. The final coating was a rusting patina also using a sponge. |
As opposed to the curvilinear nature of the architectural tile, the corner block is much more rectilinear. My corner block is very much inspired by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, especially his Freeman House.
Architectural Screen
The architectural screen involved creating a repeatable modular system that could stand up.
